The ongoing dissonance on the increase in mess charges at Panjab University doesn't seem to be nearing its end.
With neither the authorities nor the students budging from their stance, the campus has turned into a battleground of egos. The PU authorities on Saturday put their
foot down and came up with a final decision to have a fixed meal option at Rs. 24 per diet and regular unlimited meal for Rs. 30.

Meanwhile, the protesting students in the afternoon agreed to a hike of Rs. 2 per meal, which would have made diet available at Rs. 26 instead of Rs. 30, which was proposed by the PU authorities.

However, the PU authorities did not agree to the decision, saying that this was not viable.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, Sunny Mehta a protesting student, said, "The PU authorities seem to be under pressure from the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC). We are told that in case the authorities agree to Rs. 2 hike, the student council has threatened that they will later protest to roll back even a hike of Rs. 2. PU officials told us that the student council has maintained that since they had their consent, the rollback cannot be without their approval."
