The police on Friday revealed that Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary's driver was the fifth accused in the Jyoti murder case as the tower location of driver Satpal, alias Satta, was same as that of the other four accused in Sector 21 on the night of murder.
Jyoti, a native of Bhunga village of
Hoshiarpur, was found dead on a road in Sector 21, Panchkula, on November 22.
"The driver is the fifth accused. As we don't know the address of Satpal, we couldn't issue his arrest warrants," said ACP (headquarters) Virender Sagwan, investigating officer of the case.
The other four accused are Chaudhary, Dharampal, Gurmeet and Paramjit. All of them have been made accused on the basis of their mobile phone locations on the night of murder. The police had already issued arrest warrants against four of them.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary appeared in public on December 20 after his victory from Doon constituency of Himachal Pradesh (HP) legislative assembly, but the Panchkula police did not arrest him as there was a request from the Himachal police that feared law and order problem. His anticipatory bail was dismissed on December 26 from the Panchkula district courts.
NCSC raises issue with Panchkula police
Dr Raj Kumar Verka, vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on Thursday had called up Panchkula DCP Parul Jain and commissioner of police, Ambala-Panchkula, KK Sharma regarding the Jyoti murder case. However, both were busy and could not meet him. Instead, ACP Sagwan met him and apprised him about the developments in the case. Talking to mediapersons, Verka said, "I have issued a demi-official letter to Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh for asking the HP police to help nab the accused. The accused is a MLA and he is also absconding. He should appear before the police and face the case."
He added that the efforts of the Panchkula police were not enough. He said, "I am writing to the Haryana DGP and the Himachal Pradesh DGP to monitor the case and help in nabbing the accused."
Meanwhile, he issued directions to the Panchkula police to submit an action taken report and arrest the accused in 15 days.
