A local fast-track court on Thursday convicted and sentenced former army havildar Major Singh for the murder of a woman hailing from Amritsar.
Devinder Kumar Sharma, additional district and sessions judge-cum-presiding officer of the fast-track court, sentenced the convict to life
imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000,
According to assistant district attorney Ashok Kumar Dhiman, Major Singh, a resident of Barad village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, came to Amb subdivision in Una district with Jagir Kaur of Khalsa Colony, Amritsar, on October 16, 2010. He murdered her at a private guest house in Amb over a financial dispute. Major Singh has already confessed to the crime.
