Flower vendors sitting near the Durga Mata temple on the Club Road here have become a nuisance for commuters and the municipal corporation has become a mute spectator taking no action in this regard.
Inconvenience is caused to commuters as vendors install their stalls almost on the
road to sell flowers making the area congested, especially on Tuesday and Saturday.
Residents living near the temple are a harried lot. They say that despite complaining to the MC several times, no notice has been taken of the problem and the flower vendors continue to set up their stalls in the same area. Huge rush can be witnessed every evening near the temple.
Adding to the woes, people park their vehicles in front of the temple which further congests the area already encroached upon by the flower vendors.
Smita Sharma, a resident who lives near the temple, says the vendors have become a nuisance as they not only cause traffic snarls but also "indulge in anti-social activities". There have been instances when flower vendors have indulged in duel with residents and visitors, causing harassment to them.
However, the municipal corporation has failed to take action against them. The MC is busy taking action against rehris owners but has forgotten to take any action against these flower vendors who have illegally occupied the road near the temple.
Naveen Malhotra, superintendent of tehbazari wing of MC, said action would be taken against these flower vendors soon.
"The flower vendors have been told not to encroach upon the road. We will take action against them if they do not abide by the law," Malhotra adds.
