A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide on Friday after being forced to marry a 35-year-old man.
Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against three persons, including two women, on Saturday on the complaint of the victim's mother Kusma Devi. Devi, a domestic
help and mother of three, hails from Uttar Pradesh and currently stays at Badhmajra colony in the district.

She alleged that her neighbours - Geeta and Dulari - had approached her with Pancham's marriage proposal for her daughter, which she had declined saying that the girl was a minor and still studying in Class 8.

Devi alleged that despite her turning down the proposal, Pancham used to harass her daughter.

“When I left for work on Friday, somebody informed me that my daughter had committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan,” Devi told the police.

“We have registered a case against three persons - Geeta, Dulari and Pancham - for abetment to suicide. The trio is still at large and raids are being conducted to arrest them,” said Kulbir Singh, station house officer (SHO), Balongi.
