She is beautiful, she is charming and she knows what it takes to fit into a Bollywood potboiler. Polish-German model and actor Claudia Ciesla, who has had her stint with Hindi films and television including Bigg Boss 3, is now set to seduce Bollywood’s khiladi Akshay Kumar onscreen in item number
Balma from film Khiladi 786 releasing this Friday.
Polish-German model-turned-actor Claudia Ciesla is upbeat about her item number with Akshay Kumar.
In city to promote the film, Claudia confidently steers the talk into an engaging conversation peppered with fluent Hindi.
How did Balma happen?
I got a call from the production team of Khiladi 786, which was looking for an item girl for their forthcoming film with Akshay Kumar. It was a great chance to share screen space with Akshay sir and I was praying that I get selected.
It is a tribute to RD Burman. Were you aware?
I was neither aware nor did I know who RD Burman was. Once we started shooting, I was told he was one of the finest music composers Bollywood has ever seen.
Shooting with the film’s team, especially with Akshay Kumar, has been the best three days of my life so far. There is so much to learn from him. This Himesh Reshammiya song is catchy and has received good response. The film is out-and-out entertainer.
On being called an ‘item’ girl
Top actresses like Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are doing item numbers. I have no problem being called an item girl. Songs set the pace for a film and are released much before the film. Hit songs pull crowd to theatres.
Career so far
I am satisfied the way my career has shaped up. After the release of my international film, Karma, I got an offer to be a part of Big Boss 3 in 2009. I used to wait for Friday to be able talk to Amitabh Bachchan sir. Then reality show Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout happened in 2011. None other than Shah Rukh Khan hosted the show. Three months back my first Punjabi film, Yaar Pardesi, released and now I am looking forward to Khiladi 786.
How do you speak Hindi so well?
After Big Boss, I decided to stay back in Mumbai and my priority was to learn Hindi. Without knowing the language, one cannot emote. I devoted two hours to Hindi everyday.
Are you comfortable speaking Punjabi?
I did take Punjabi tuition for three weeks to learn the entire script before the shoot of Yaar Pardesi started, but I still can’t speak the language.
I am flooded with offers after Balma. I have offers even from South, but I will leave it to the producers and directors to announce.
