Finally after escaping the house tax for the past five years, the city residents will have to pay it from May 1. The house tax will be added to water bills.
The municipal corporation (MC) approved the house tax during the house meeting on February 28, without any debate. The MC will
be sending the minutes of the meeting to the UT administration for notification.
Speaking to HT, MC commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh said the tax would likely be imposed from May 1 as we would send the minutes of the meeting to the UT administration for approval and notification.
“As far as collection of the house tax is concerned, we are planning to add it to water bills, so that, we do not spend much money on tax collection,” he said.
Vice-chairman of house tax assessment committee MP Kohli said, “We are happy that the house tax has been approved. It is just a meagre amount, if we compare it to Panchkula.”
BJP councillor Saurabh Joshi said, “The city residents will never forgive the Congress as they have burdened people, who are already suffering from the anti-people policy of the Congress-led central government. Also, the way it has been approved is very unfortunate.”
