J&K: Sarpanch shot dead by militants

Militants on Sunday night shot dead a sarpanch in Kreeri area of north Kashmir Baramulla district, police said.

The ultras shot Mohammad Shafi Teli in the chest outside his house at Nowpora village in Kreeri area, 35 km from here, at around 8:15pm, resulting in critical injuries to him, said the police.

The 38-year-old Shafi was shifted to sub-district hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
