A team of Punjab vigilance department caught a junior engineer red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 5,000 here on Friday evening.
The money was paid in lieu of issuing a temporary meter to a Baltana resident for his shop. As per reports, Santosh Kumar had been making rounds of the
electricity department for the issuance of a temporary electricity meter.
The shop was under the jurisdiction of junior engineer Rohit Gupta, who had reportedly demanded Rs. 10,000. However, the deal was finalised for Rs. 5,000. Meanwhile, Santosh filed a complaint with the Punjab vigilance department.
Vigilance laid a trap, following which Gupta was called at a specified location on the Kalka road. As Santosh handed over the the money to Gupta, the vigilance team caught him red-handed.
