Presiding over a high-level meeting with the heads of procurement agencies here, Kairon apprised the union minister of the hardships faced by farmers during procurement due to the inclement weather.

Thomas assured Kairon that he would soon despatch technical teams of officers from his ministry to take stock of the situation and assess the extent of damage caused to paddy in terms of discolouration and moisture.

Kairon also held deliberations with managing directors of procurement agencies to ensure smooth and prompt procurement of paddy in the wake of damage caused to it due to recent unseasonal rain and hailstorm, especially in Ludhiana, Rupnagar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts.
