Ludhiana would soon have the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on the lines of Istanbul (Turkey).

The Punjab government's resolve to start the BRTS in Ludhiana and Amritsar, to begin with, was announced on Wednesday after deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal gave his nod to replicate the system he witnessed in Istanbul during his ongoing visit to Turkey.

The deputy chief minister, who led an official delegation to Turkey, had a meeting with the team of the Istanbul Electricity Tramway and Tunnel, a public sector company that operates BRTS in that city, the spokesman said here.

The company provides transport services in Istanbul, a city of more than 1 crore people, including trams, ferries, buses and the BRTS. It successfully transports more than 7.5 lakh people every day, the spokesman said.
