If you no more see your neighbour visiting the 'apni mandi', don't get surprised as chances are that he or she may be buying the veggies and fruits online like hundreds of others. The trend is catching up fast among the working professionals of the tricity, who don't have enough time at their disposal to visit the traditional grocery stores and apni mandis.

Online grocery stores such as tazastuff.com and easysabji.com are already delivering goods to the satisfaction of their customers.

Now, one can place orders online and 'fresh' vegetables and fruits are delivered at the given address the next day. The payment is made on delivery. Meanwhile, if you find that the vegetables or fruits are not fresh, you need not worry as the stores have a return policy. The facility is, however, available if the order is of more than Rs. 150. Also these online stores offer discounts which are difficult to match while buying veggies from street vendors.

Shrey Shegal, an IT professional, says, "With over 10 hours' job, I hardly get time for grocery shopping. On many days I buy stuff online from office and the same is delivered the next day. The vegetables are really fresh and it is a blessing for working professionals like me".

Some of these online stores have gone a step forward -they now also have their pick-up stores in some of the offices from where employees can pick their orders up while going back home.

Neelam Singh, a resident of Sector 46, said she was very satisfied with this online service as fresh fruits and veggies are delivered at home without paying extra.

Gaurav Mittal of easysabji.com said they get 40-45 orders a day and customers were satisfied with their services. "Looking at the response, we are contemplating to deliver goods the day the order is placed," Mittal said.

Kusum Gupta, a resident of Sector 27, said the online grocery stores save time and the quality of vegetables and fruits was better. "Even the price of goods is at par with the market," she said.

Meanwhile, there are also online milk stores, which deliver milk at your doorstep.
