PCMS hails raise in number of MBBS seats

The Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) association has welcomed Punjab government's decision to increase the number of seats in MBBS and MD/MS courses in state medical colleges at Patiala and Amritsar.
State president of PCMS association Dr Hardeep Singh said that increase had been
sanctioned after many decades and was the need of the hour.

He added that the step would go a long way in improving the doctor-patient ratio in the state.

He has also demanded that the strength of teachers be also increased in line with the increase in student strength.

Dr Gagandeep Shergill, state joint secretary of association, has demanded more funds to the colleges to improve the infrastructure.

On Thursday, the state government had increased the number of seats in the MBBS course at the Government Medical College, Patiala and Amritsar by 100 each. The seats in MD/MS courses at Patiala was also raised by 47 seats.
