Now, parking cars will cost more at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
According to sources in the PGI administration, as per the tender floated for the fresh auction for various parking sites located in the institute, it has been
proposed that for single entry for car parking it will cost Rs. 10. At present, it costs Rs. 5.
Interestingly, the single entry of the car in various parking lots across the city being auctioned by the municipal corporation costs only Rs. 5.
The institute has also decided to double the multi-entry car passes for 24 hours. At present, it was just Rs. 10 and now it will cost Rs. 25. Sources said at present the institute has decided not to increase the charges for two-wheelers.
Manju Wadwalkar, spokesperson for the institute, said, "I don't have any information on the issue."
At present, the institute has a total of 22 parking lots, which have the capacity of 3,350 cars. At present, the biggest parking facility at the institute is the multi-level parking in front of the new OPD building. It has a capacity of 550 cars. Now, the institute is coming up with another car parking facility, which will have a capacity of 750 cars. It will be built at the cost of Rs. 119 crore.
To find a parking space at PGI is not an easy task. The institute has around 9,000 employees and it caters to around 6,000 patients in outdoor patient department everyday and around 2,000 patients remain admitted for the indoor care.
