Students of Panjab University (PU) at Chandigarh have a reason to cheer as 24x7 online fee payment facility has become a reality and will become operational from Monday.
The facility has been made available to students who are due to pay their tuition fee for third semester onwards for 2013-14 academic session. Hitherto, the fee was paid either by way of demand draft or in cash at the university fee counters. As roll number is mandatory, freshers would be able to avail this facility from second semester only.
The facility has been made available for the students of 57 departments or courses on the PU campus. All leading institutes such as UIET, UBS, Dr HSJ Dental College, UIAMS, UILS have been covered in the first phase.
To avail the benefit, a student need not have his or her own bank account. Parents, relatives and friends can also pay fee on student's behalf by filling the student's particulars on the website. All that is required is possession of an ATM-cum-debit or credit card of any bank, including State Bank of India (SBI) and its associate bank or internet banking transaction rights of SBI.
The PU authorities also plan to extend the facility for payment of other miscellaneous payments such as hostel fee, revaluation fee, migration fee etc. Efforts are being made to extend the facility to the students of University School of Open Learning (USOL).Queries may be mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject “State Bank Collect”.
How to pay fee
n The student has to log on to www.onlinesbi.com and click “State Bank Collect”.
n Read instructions carefully before clicking on “proceed”.
n The students will then be asked to select state - here it will be “Chandigarh”. Thereafter, educational institute has to be selected.
n On the next page, the students will have to select name of their department/institute/college.
n The student will have to fill-in details such as name, father's name, roll number, amount of fee etc. Mobile number and date of birth would also have to be filled in. Upon submitting information, the student will be directed to the mode of payment page.
n SBI and its associate bank customers can pay fee by selecting State Bank ATM-cum-debit card link. Those having net banking transaction rights can also pay by clicking on SBI net banking link. Nominal charges of Rs. 10 will be charged.
n Students having credit cards or other banks' ATM-cum-debit cards can pay by choosing the respective option. Minimum charges of Rs. 10 or 2% of the transaction amount would be charged.
n The site would direct to the payment gateway page, here either card details or net banking login details would have to be entered depending upon the option chosen earlier.
n After confirmation, an e-receipt will be generated, whose print out has to be submitted to PU with the respective form.
