Punjab director general of police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini on Friday suspended Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer Kulwinder Singh, commandant of the 80th battalion of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) at Jalandhar, for using police personnel and official vehicles for construction work at his farmhouse.
He has been attached with the Punjab Police headquarters at Chandigarh during his suspension period.
A preliminary inquiry had been conducted following information about the misuse of official manpower and vehicles.
Senior IPS officer Babu Lal Meena, who was deputed to probe the matter, visited the construction site at Variana village in Jalandhar district and found that 11 police personnel were working and the Canter of the 80th battalion was being used, a spokesman said here.
The suspension took place after Meena submitted a detailed inquiry report to the ADGP (armed battalions), who further brought the matter to the DGP's notice, the spokesman added.
The case has been sent to the state government for a regular inquiry under service rules, which could lead to dismissal of the officer.
