The Punjab government on Wednesday extended a major relief to rice millers, slashing the limit of monthly power charges during the milling season.
The government has allowed millers to pay for 100 KW per month during the season instead of the previously fixed payment for 330 KW
monthly for the whole year. The move would benefit more than 3,900 millers in the state, a spokesman said here.

Now, millers can deposit monthly charges for 100 KW - around Rs. 3.5 lakh for the nine months of the milling season   at the rate of Rs. 40,000 per month. The spokesman stated that if the monthly power consumption of any miller would be less than 100 KW over nine months, he would still have to deposit the fixed amount of Rs. 3.5 lakh. If the consumption of any miller exceeds the quota, he would have to pay for the extra power used, the spokesman added.
