Punjab releases Rs. 21 crore for mid-day meal

Punjab government has released Rs. 21 crore for the mid-day meal to all district education officers (DEOs) in the state.


A spokesman of the state government on Monday said that the amount for the month of October has been released, out of which the honorarium to cooks-cum-helpers would also be given.

The spokesman further said that the government has been successfully running the scheme in Moga, Sangrur and SAS Nagar districts with the active assistance of NGOs.

On proposal of school principals, the state government has also decided to allow the NGOs to run the scheme in 41 schools of SAS Nagar district.

Besides that the government has also decided to run the Centre-aided scheme in three more districts namely Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala from November 1 under contract system.
