She watched Aishwarya Rai being crowned Miss World in 1994, and SAS Nagar-based Manpreet Kaur decided she too would win a beauty pageant some day.
On Friday night, when she won the title of Miss PTC Punjabi 2012 in Jalandhar, Manpreet’s dream came true. The 21-year-old model and final year BSc (IT) student at SD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, shares her childhood dreams.
Says she, “In 2006, I saw Miss PTC Punjabi on TV for the first time and I knew this was the platform that would turn my dream of becoming a model true. Though I have taken no formal training in this area, I do nurture a love for dance, which helped me win two other titles at the Miss PTC Punjabi contest: Miss Dancing Queen and Best Talented. Also, I have been performing the giddha since the age of five. I always made it a point to actively participate in all youth festivals organised by the Panjab University. I believe it was my confidence and being rooted with Punjab culture and folk that helped me win the crown.”
Manpreet counts her family as one of her greatest assets. “When advertisements announcing the auditions started flashing on TV screens, my father told me to fill up the entry form and audition for the title. My family has been very supportive towards me since they knew of my childhood dream,” she shares.
Recalling her two-month experience of being in the run for the title, she says, “All the contestants were raw when they auditioned to participate in the contest. However, after being groomed well for over two months, we can now proclaim to be good models. The entire experience has been a very enticing and learning one, and the competition was really hard.”
Manpreet is proud of her answer to the final question that bagged her the crown, wherein she said that every individual’s sincere and committed efforts would soon turn this country into a developed nation.
The damsel, who fancies the glamorous world of fame, is hoping for a ticket in Pollywood now. She is also preparing for MSc (IT) entrance exams for she doesn’t want her studies to be compromised.
