The directorate of gurdwara elections, Delhi, has withdrawn the showcause notice issued to PTC news channel after accepting the latter's reply.
In a letter dated January 27, the director, gurdwara elections, GP Singh said, "The explanation submitted by PTC had been accepted.
Accordingly, the matter is treated as closed."
The directorate had issued a notice dated January 26 to PTC, stating that "the continuous running of advertisements by PTC news channel on January 26 (Saturday) till midnight, exhorting voters to vote in favour of a particular party/candidate, is a violation of the model code of conduct as well as Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act."
Campaigning for the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls had ended at 5pm on January 25.
A copy of the directorate's notice had been forwarded to the union ministry of information and broadcasting. On the basis of this notice, the ministry had also issued a showcause notice to PTC.
In its reply, PTC denied any violation of the model code of conduct or sections of the Representation of the People Act. The news channel said the DSGMC elections were not being conducted under the purview of the Act, which is meant for holding elections of Parliament or houses of Legislature. The channel claimed that the gurdwara elections were non-political.
