Flights and train services to and from the city were affected on Thursday due to thick fog that had reduced visibility.

"Dense fog in the city delayed at least four flights to Chandigarh by around one-and-a-half hours on an average. Flights were affected as dense fog was witnessed on runways at the Chandigarh international airport during morning and evening hours," said an airport official.

SpiceJet, JetKonnect and Jet Airways (India) flights were delayed, causing their passengers unnecessary inconvenience while waiting for their respective flights to take off. "We request passengers to confirm the schedule of their flights before leaving their houses so as to prevent any inconvenience," said airport director HS Toor.

Similar situation prevailed at Chandigarh railway station, where trains were running behind schedule. Outstation trains were the worst affected.

Railway officials said that both the morning New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express and New Delhi-Kalka Himalayan Queen were running late by an hour. The Lucknow-Chandigarh Express was running three hours behind schedule, Howrah-Kalka Mail by one hour and 10 minutes, Amritsar-Chandigarh Duronto Express and New Delhi-Chandigarh Jan Shatabdi by one hour each.

"We didn't confirm train arrival timings before leaving our hours. Now, after arriving at the railway station, we have come to know that the train is late. We have no choice but to while away our time in the waiting area," lamented Prashant Naik, a passenger.
