Members of Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) rallied outside the office of director, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), on Tuesday to protest against the system of appearance in supplementary exams.

Following the protest, the UIET management agreed to SOPU's demand that students with reappears be given the chance to appear in all papers in which they had compartment till the 6th semester along with the final semester (6th) examinations.

UIET had introduced a new system under which students can appear in supplementary exams on the basis of odd and even semesters. For example, a student of 6th semester is not allowed to sit in reappear exams for compartments of 3rd and 5th semesters.

With the placements starting in the 7th semester, such students would be left out since they need to clear all semesters to become eligible for placement interviews.

SOPU president Rashpal Hakuwala, who led the protesters along with other student leaders, hailed the UIET decision taken in the interests of the affected students.
