Rajender Pal Upadhyaya, 46, has been named as the new IGP of the Chandigarh police. Though Upadhyaya's name has been finalised, the UT administration is yet to receive official communication about the same from the ministry of home affairs (MHA).
The 1991-batch IPS Arunachal
Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) officer will take over the post of UT IGP, which fell vacant after the retirement of PK Srivastava on November 30. Srivastava served Chandigarh for two years.

Currently, Upadhyaya is holding the charge of additional director enforcement directorate (ED), New Delhi.

Upadhyaya had bagged the president's medal for gallantry (PMG) in 2006 for handling a large violent mob and saving many precious lives and property in Daman in 2003. He also took participation in security arrangements in various high profile international and national conferences.
