The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
The accused, ASI Sukhwinder Singh, was posted at the Samana Sadar police station in Patiala district and was demanding bribe from Dharm Singh of Paharpur
village for not arresting him.
The latter, who had secured anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana high court, had lodged a complaint with the VB, following which a trap was laid to arrest the accused, a spokesman said here.
The VB has registered an FIR against Sukhwinder under sections 7, 13 (1) read with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Patiala VB police station.
