The Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday that it would soon finalise the policy regarding recording/playing of vulgar and indecent songs.
The statement was made before the division bench headed by chief justice Arjan Kumar Sikri during resumed hearing
of a public interest litigation filed by a non-governmental organisation, HELP (Human Empowerment League of Punjab) of Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar) district.
The petitioner has suggested the constitution of a censor board to check such menace or framing of an effective policy.
Citing news reports, the petitioner had told the court about some Punjabi singers who had been recording vulgar/lewd songs and "crossing all limits of decency".
The petition names singers such as Honey Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Amar Chamkila, Ashok Masti and Geeta Zaildar, "whose music albums/songs should be scrutinised and appropriate action taken against them as per law."
The case would now come up for hearing on April 25.
