It is the first attempt of the students of International Media School, Sector 28, Chandigarh, at making a documentary, but they have ensured good technology makes up for their inexperience. Using professional cameras, state-of-the-art editing facilities and visual effects, a group of seven
students took a year to make the 30-minute film, titled North India’s Young Achievers.

At the film’s screening at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16, on Tuesday, the students credited the academy’s director, Piyoosha Sharma, for giving them the idea to recognise the achievements of students from schools across north India.

So, invitations were sent to more than 100 schools in the north, out of which 20 schools reverted with a list of students. “After short-listing 10, we asked the chosen students’ principals to nominate one student each from their school,” shares the production team that made the documentary. The criterion of selection, elaborates Piyoosha, was to include students from Classes IX till XII, not differentiating if their achievements had been made at the state level, zonal level or international level.

Made at a budget of R1.5 lakh, the documentary includes students who have excelled in sports, dancing, football or filmmaking.

The young production team acknowledges its first attempt is amateurish, but hopes to improve in its second attempt. “We saw a lot of documentaries before making this one, but we wanted it to have our own angle,” they say.

The achievers, on the other hand, realise that there might be many others who were as deserving. However, they are happy their hard work has been acknowledged.

Piyoosha is glad as well, promising the documentary starring worthy students will be made every year.
