Purshottam Lal, 40, a resident of Hariana died after being seriously injured in an attack by 15-20 goons in his house late Saturday night.

His wife Neelam told the police that Taranjit Singh alias Mahant of Bhulana village and his cohorts barged in to their house around 10 pm and inflicted serious injuries to her husband with sharp-edged weapons.

She claimed that she along with her son and daughter too were beaten up.

The family rushed Pushottam to local civil hospital from where he was referred to Hoshiarpur. Considering his critical condition he was further referred to PGI Chandigarh but he died on the way, Neelam revealed.

She said her husband had a tiff with Mahant over latter's alleged illicit relations with a woman of their village, and had scared him away with a rod when Mahant had come to see that woman. To avenge that hurt, the accused attacked her husband with an intension to kill him, she alleged.

Hariana SHO Bikramjit Singh revealed that a case under Section 302 of IPC had been registered against Mahant and unidentified persons and all the accused were at large.
