With the grace period of submitting Aadhaar numbers and bank account details going to end on September 1 in district, around 50% LPG consumers will not be able to get subsidy under Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme.

Those who have failed to provide details of Aadhaar and bank account details with their respective gas dealers, will have to pay the market rates to refill cylinders.

Sources in the food and supply department said around 1.03-lakh consumers out of which 90,000 are active and among them around 75000 have submitted the required details to their gas dealers. But most importantly only 45000 have linked their Aadhaar number and bank accounts with LPG connection which means other 45000 could not avail the subsidy provided by the government.

A subsidy of R435 will be transferred by the central government into the bank accounts of those who linked their UID numbers and bank details with LPG connection on booking of gas refill. Those who have failed to furnish the details during this grace period will have to buy the LPG on market rates which costs around R900 per refill.

However, the the bank sources said around 72000 consumers have submitted their details of Aadhar numbers and bank accounts and 43,841 (till Monday) have seeded their Aadhar numbers with the LPG connection and the bank account.

Nawanshahr had become the first district in Punjab on June 1, 2013 to provide the DBTL to consumers. Punjab food and civil supplies minister, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, inaugurated the scheme. A grace of period of three months from June 1 to August 31 was given to people to provide their Aadhar number with the LPG connection and the bank account.

The district administration on August 26, also released a statement that those who failed to submit their details with gas agencies during this period and would have to pay market rate for gas refill.

District food and supply controller Baljinder Singh Dhillon said, "After September 1, those who have failed to submit the required details to dealers, will have to buy cylinder on market rate and they will get subsidy only after they submit the details."
