Unidentified burglars broke open the ATM of the Axis Bank on Mundi Road in Nangal Lubhana village and decamped with the cash lying in it.
The incident came to the notice of area people on Tuesday morning. Sources said the burglars had used a gas-cutter to break open the ATM. Manager of
the Begowal branch of the bank, Vipan Puri, said, "We have reported the matter to higher authorities and the surveyors would assess the exact loss." Police sources said the total loss could be as high as Rs. 9 lakh.
"We have asked the bank to provide the video footage of both the CCTV cameras installed in the ATM cabin. However, the burglars had sprayed some opaque liquid on the camera before committing the cirme," said Bholath SHO Hargurdev Singh. A case has been registered.
