Resentment prevails among sugarcane growers of Nakodar, Shahkot and Phillaur subdivisions against non-clearance of dues of Rs. 3.78 crore by the Nakodar Cooperative Sugar Mill Limited.
The affected farmers alleged that payments to cane growers were being delayed even after they
mentioned that the mill would be responsible to clear the bills within six months of their issuance. The cane growers have visited the mill several times since November 2011 for getting the bills cleared, but without success.
Neither the mill managing director nor other officials were ready to address their problems, a farmer alleged.
When contacted, mill managing director Madan Lal Wadhwa conceded that they had not been able to clear the bills due to financial crunch. He said the management has sought help from the government so that the dues of cane grower could be cleared at the earliest.
