Slamming the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-led Punjab government for encroaching upon 16 industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the state, Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta said it showed the real face of the SAD in safeguarding the future of youth.
Lambasting several departments, particularly Nawanshahr SSP Dhanpreet Kaur for encroaching upon the ITI meant to impart technical education to the youth, Mehta said it would adversely affect the future of youth.
“The ITIs are meant to impart technical training to students so that they can find better job opportunities. By encroaching upon the institute, the government is hampering the process,” she said.
“Police who are supposed to help remove encroachments are themselves indulged in the illegal practice,” she said.
“The Nawanshahr SSP knows that her official residence belongs to the ITI principal, but she has not vacated the premises,” Mehta said.
“As the unemployment is on the rise, there is a need to train the youth technically. For this, ITIs play an important role. But, it seems that the state government instead of curbing unemployment is determined to raise an army of unemployed youth,” Mehta added.
