Keeping your credit card at a safe place is not enough to avoid its misuse as hackers can gain access to your account details from anywhere in the world.
On January 15, at about 9 pm, Dr Kuldip Singh, an ENT specialist, received a message on his mobile about transaction of around
$478.82 (Rs 27,000 approximately) from an add-on card of his ICICI credit card. Shocked, he immediately called the customer care at Chandigarh and got the card blocked.

However, he was later informed that the transaction had taken place in the US. The hacker could have compromised other account numbers too, he was told.

"The bank has promised to remit the transacted amount, but what has happened is very shocking," said Kuldip Singh. He has lodged a complaint with the police station concerned and demanded a probe into the matter by the cyber crime branch of the police.
