DC reviews arrangements for the Panchayats and Zila Parishad elections

In his first meeting after taking charge, deputy commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat reviewed the arrangements for smooth conduct of elections with returning and assistant returning officers of the district.


Earlier, in the morning, he took charge of office of deputy commissioner Kapurthala in the presence of other top officials of the district. In the district, 633 polling stations have been set up for the 537 panchayats and 35,3753 people would exercise their right to poll for electing their local representatives, Mangat said after the meeting.

"Following directions from the election commission, the maximum expenditure limit for zila parishad election has been fixed at Rs. 1.56 lakh; for panchayat samiti elections, the limit has been fixed at Rs. 65,000. Polling would be held on May 12 from 10 am to 4 pm," he said adding that, "In the district, there are ten zones for zila parishads and 85 zones for panchayat samitis."

"My aim is to ensure impartial and smooth conduct of elections in the district," he said.

Additional deputy commissioners Gurpreet Singh Khaira and Mohammad Iqbal Bhatti and SDMs of all the four subdivisions of the district were present at the meeting.
