The district (rural) police claimed to have solved a blind double murder case in Kartarpur area with the arrest of the main accused, on Monday.
On December 27, the accused Charan Singh had murdered his friend Ram Lal and a mentally challenged woman at Lal's house.
Ram Lal and
Charan had apparently drank together. Charan allegedly tried to rape the woman, to which Lal protested, infuriating Charan, who murdered both of them and fled.
A cousin of Ram Lal, Sham Lal had complained to the police and the police had registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC.
SP Rajinder Singh said that a special investigation team (SIT) headed by DSP Jasbir Singh Rai, was constituted to investigate the case and the suspect was zeroed in on. The accused was arrested from the Bholath area, the SP said.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused has admitted to the murders. The accused will be produced before a court to seek his reamn.
