Principal correspondent of Hindustan Times, Jasdeep Singh Malhotra (41), who died on Sunday in a fatal road accident near Mukerian, was cremated here today where people from all walks of life paid tribute to the departed soul.
The mortal remains of Jasdeep Singh Malhotra was taken in a procession from his residence Model House area and after performing religious ceremony in Model House Gurdwara the body was taken to Basti Sheikh cremation ground.
Hundreds of friends of Malhotra including relatives, police officials, bureaucrats, journalists thronged the cremation ground to have last glimpse of the departed soul.
Divisional commissioner, R Venkatratnam, laid wreath on behalf of Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy commissioner Varun Roojam laid wreath on behalf of Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. Assistant media advisor to deputy CM Harjinder Sidhu laid wreath on behalf of Bikram Singh Majithia, Information and Public Relations minister. Suresh Arora, chief director Vigilance Bureau, Punjab laid wreath on behalf of Punjab Police and Vigilance Bureau.
Chief parliamentary secretaries, KD Bhandari and Pawan Kumar Tinu also laid wreaths on behalf of Punjab government. Mayor Jalandhar municipal corporation Sunil Jyoti also laid wreath.
Senior resident editor of HT, Ramesh Vinayak, and Pawan Sharma, chief of bureau also laid wreaths on the mortal remains of Jasdeep Singh Malhotra, on behalf of entire HT family.
Prominent among others who laid the wreath on the mortal remains include, Barjinder Singh Hamdard, managing editor, Ajit Group, Irwin Khanna, editor Uttam Hindu and Shital Vij, managing editor, Dainik Sawera.
As soon as his 9-years-old son Harnoor lit the pyre, the moist eyes of all those present paid their glorious tributes to that fearless soldier of media, who always gave precedence to public interest in his stories. Commissioner and deputy commissioner shared grief with his wife Kulwinder Kaur Malhotra and his brother Sandeep Singh Malhotra.
Other prominent who attended the funeral include, Local MP Mohinder Singh Kay Pee, former ministers Choudhary Jagjit Singh, Avtar Henry, Amarjit Singh Samara, NRI Sabha Chairman Jasbir Singh Gill, former MLA Jagbir Brar and joint director Public Relations, Surinder Malik.
The Bhog ceremony of Jasdeep Singh Malhotra would be held on September 29, between 2 to 3 pm in Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Model Town, Jalandhar.
BJP National executive member and former minister Punjab Manoranjan Kalia have expressed deep shock and grief over the untimely sad demise of Jasdeep Singh Malhotra, under mysterious circumstances in an accident.
