'Hoshiarpur to be a corporation'

Local bodies minister Bhagat Chunni Lal has announced that Hoshiarpur municipal council will shortly be upgraded to a corporation. Inaugurating a new building of the council, named after Swami Vivekanand, he said that the long pending demand of the people of the town would be met soon. He
claimed that the state government had completed almost all formalities and by Baisakhi (April 13), a corporation would be formed.

He said that the government had earmarked Rs. 3,125 crore for the development of cities.

He claimed that 100% water and sewerage project in Hoshiarpur would be completed soon on which the government was spending Rs. 114 crore. He also claimed that all vacant posts in the local bodies department would be filled soon.

Former minister Tikshan Sood added that the new municipal building had come up at a cost of Rs. 5.50 crore and all its offices had been computerised.

Chief parliamentary secretaries Som Parkash and Sohan Singh Thandal were also present. Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna and state BJP president Kamal Sharma also attended the inauguration ceremony.
