As many as 511 liquor vends in the district were allotted for Rs. 156.70 crore on Friday by draw of lots. Deputy commissioner Mansavi Kumar initiated the allotment process, which was held in a hotel.
Assistant excise and taxation commissioner (AETC) Rajpal Singh Khaira said that the
department had earned Rs. 5.41 crore more than previous year. He revealed that 1,456 applications were received for consideration, which yielded an additional income of Rs. 9.50 crore.
For the allotment, the applicants had been grouped in 10 clusters. City vends went for Rs. 37.60 crore. Vends in Hariana were allotted for Rs. 10.75 crore, in Garhdiwala for Rs. 7.75 crore, in Tanda for Rs. 14.50 crore, in Dasuya for Rs. 14 crore, in Mukerian for Rs. 14.85 crore, in Talwara for Rs. 9.75 crore, in Chabbewal for Rs. 15.50 crore, in Mehtiana for Rs. 16.75 crore and in Garhshankar for Rs. 15.25 crore.
