Endorsing cabinet minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon's stand on grant of ministerial status to newly-appointed media advisers to deputy chief minister, People's Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal on Saturday termed it “political bribery” to overburden the state exchequer, already facing financial crisis.

“The ministerial berth in cabinet is given after a person gets mandate of people and he takes oath of secrecy. But in the SAD-BJP regime, cabinet rank is being given as political bribery to woo media for projection of the individual personality of Sukhbir Badal,” Manpreet said.

“Though I have some political differences with Kairon, he is a man of principles and an honest politician,” Manpreet, the former cabinet colleague of Kairon, said.

Punjab cabinet ministers Adesh Partap Kairon and Bikram Singh Majithia, both from Badal family, had a verbal duel during a cabinet meeting over giving ministerial and chief parliamentary status to newly appointed media advisers.

Regarding political alliance with the Congress in Punjab, the PPP chief said that he had already offered to form a joint platform of opposition parties and now it was up to the Congress to respond.

Drug pangs of Punjab: Punjabi NRIs part of well-knit narcotics circuit

It is an open secret. Acknowledged for their enterprising skills the world over, some Punjabi NRIs, mainly in Canada and the UK, are spreading the illicit multi-crore drug racket in the international market through hawala transactions, also harming the socio-economic fabric of their own motherland.
