Into the door-to-door cancer survey which started on December 1, 2012, the health workers just collected the information verbally about number of cancer patients.
The remaining important information including type of cancers, number of male and female patients is yet to be prepared by doctors and it may take another 10-15 days about detailed report about cancer patients.
A meeting was held recently at civil hospital, higher authorities sent a letter to senior medical officers of all community health centres (CHC), primary health centres (PHC), SMO civil hospital to send the detailed information about symptoms of cancer disease among cancer patients. A copy of letter is with HT.
They have also been asked to prepare lists according to types of cancer disease including chest cancer, breast cancer, uterus cancer, mouth cancer and blood cancer, the patients have been suffering.
Moreover, they were also requested to send ANMs, ASHA workers and other health workers to houses of suspected cancer patients, they can bring the patients to CHC or PHC so that after conducting their preliminary examination by SMOs, patients can be referred to PGI Chandigarh, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College at Faridkot and Cancer Hospital Ludhiana, and treatment can be immediately started.
Into the month long survey, shocking figures about cancer disease have come out in the district as it was found that 500 people have been suffering from cancer disease.
Around 540 lost their lives due to this deadly disease and 1230 suspected patients have been also found during the survey.
District health officer Dr Garja Singh said that health department has sent the report to higher official about the outcome of cancer patients in the district.
He also said that SMOs of CHC and PHC have been asked to prepare detailed report of cancer patients including types of cancers and number of males, females with the help of ANMs, ASHA workers and others.
About the survey
Population covered- 6, 38,694 including 99,155 residents in the urban areas.
536, ASHA workers, 28 facilitators, 139, ANMs, 20, sanitary inspectors, 23 women health workers and 70 nursing students were engaged into door- to door cancer survey.
