The politicians would be kept out this year's Hind Pak Mela; said Kuldeep Nayar, senior journalist and president of Hind Pak Dosti Manch which organizes this friendship annual mela across both sides of the Indo-Pakistan border.
Nayar said that no governments cooperate on this effort of building up gesture, amongst the people of the two countries, started to create a public movement.
He said, "We raise the expenditure ourselves and it is the own effort of all the organizations associated with the mela".
The two day annual 18th Hind-Pak Dosti Mela would be celebrated across both sides of the Indo-Pakistan border on August 13 and 14 wherein the mela is organized by the Hind-Pak Dosti Manch in association with Folklore Research Academy, Amritsar, Punarjot Educational Society, Amritsar and Punjab Jagriti Manch, Jalandhar in collaboration with South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA).
"Over the years, the mela has grown on its own as we have never publicized it. Last year the mela saw 2 lakh gathering on the borders and this time we are expecting the same. We will start the event by lighting the torch from Jallianwala Bagh", informed Nayar.
He added that about 40 to 50 people would visit the zero point from both the countries taking a message of peace and harmony. "From the last two years we also shake hands at the zero point and raise slogans 'Pakistan Hindustan Dosti Zindabad'. No anit slogan is being raised by anyone in the function.
The mela would begin from Spring Dale School on August 13 in the evening on the first day with a programme "Ik Sham Hind Pak Dosti De Naam", at 8pm in which dignitaries from both the countries would participate. While on August 14, a seminar on Indo-Pak relations will be held at Guru Nanak Dev University and candles would be lit at the zero line at 12 midnight from both the sides. In Lahore, same programmes would be organized and a delegation of both the sides would participate in each other's programme. After the candlelight vigil, cultural programme would also be organized wherein Punjabi singers would perform while qawali would be perform by the other side by the famous singers.
