A 21-year-old commerce student has been arrested by the district police on the charges of harassing a girl for the past many months.
A complaint in this regard had been filed by the mother of the victim. In her complaint, the mother had submitted that Deepak, a resident of local
Bhagat Singh Street, was harassing her daughter, who is a student at local PTU distance education study centre, for the past many months.
"A written complaint in this regard was moved to deputy superintendent of police (sub division) on July 17 this year and he marked the complaint to the city police station. Police, like they do in such cases, arranged a compromise and he felt sorry for his deeds. After that also, he did not stop his activities," she said.
"My husband is settled abroad and I am living along with my daughters. Activities of Deepak had affected our movements in the city and we are always living under threat to life and respect," she added.
"On the Diwali eve, Deepak fired a very big cracker in front of the gate of our house to terrorise us. On November 19, around 10.30pm, he broke a glass bottle in front of our house. On November 25, when we were participating in the religious procession to mark the gurpurb, he threatened my daughter of her forcible abduction and later at 9.30pm on the same day pelted stones on our gate. We called 100 but before the police control team arrives, he managed to flee," she said adding that, "he repeated the same on December 16."
Police had booked Deepak, who is also working in a mobile showroom of city on part time basis, under the sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 294 (obscenity) of Indian Penal Code and arrested him on Monday.
