A doctor at Kapurthala Civil Hospital allegedly asked a patient to leave the hospital and also refused to hand over the treatment record and test reports to his family, on Friday evening.

Manjit Kaur, wife of the patient Swaran Singh, said that Singh was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea on April 4 and was admitted under the care of Dr Ravjeet Singh.

"The doctor asked us to get tests related to kidney functioing from a private lab. On Friday evening, we were asked to take back my husband. He refused to give us any reason and also to discuss the reports. He shouted at me and was asked me to prove that it was he who ordered the tests," she added. She claimed that Dr Ravjeet also took the treatment record with him.

Jaspreet Singh, elder son of Swaran Singh, claimed that the doctor misbehaved with him.

Meanwhile, the patient was taken to SGL Charitable hospital on Friday night from where he was referred to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital with symptoms of swine flu. The civil hospital Jalandhar report said that the patient's haemoglobin had fallen to low levels of 3 gm.

When contacted, Dr Ravjeet refused comment, stating that he was busy.

Kapurthala civil surgeon Dr Balbir Singh said that he had received a complaint from the patient's family.

He said, "I will look into the matter and have marked an inquiry. I have taken the versions of both the parties. Dr. Ravjeet has said that he was pushed by Jaspreet Singh, the son of the patient."

He claimed that the patient was suffering from chronic renal failure and diarrhoea.

"He was being treated properly. There were symptoms of electrolyte imbalance and breathing problems. At this, the doctor advised the family to take him to another hospital, which apparently caused the family to panic. I will comment further after the inquiry report. Strict action will be taken against the guilty," he added.
