The Punjab Police have decided to conduct an inquiry into the issuance of an arms licence to Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, alleged conspirator in the Delhi farmhouse shootout, from SAS Nagar (Punjab) despite the latter being a resident of Bazpur in Udham Singh Nagar district of
Uttarakhand.

Sumedh Singh Saini, director general of police (DGP), who was here to inaugurate online payment of traffic challans, said it was a matter of concern that Namdhari had been issued the licence in the state. "We will conduct an inquiry into the matter (to ascertain the police role) and appropriate action will be taken in this regard," he added.

The Delhi police had on Sunday recovered a licensed 7.62-mm pistol and five cartridges from Namdhari's residence. The gun was allegedly used in the shootout which claimed the lives of liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep Singh.
