The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Punjab has decided to conduct a survey soon to identify out-of-school children in the state.
The families of such children, who are yet to join school, will be motivated to send their wards to school, director general school education Kahan Singh
Pannu, said.

Pannu added that school teachers and other officials would conduct a survey within the radius of 1 km from their schools.

"The details of such children in the age group of 6-14 years will be collected, collated and will be used for working out detailed strategy for imparting education to these children," he added.

He said that during the department's survey in the year 2011, 14,000 out-of-school children, including the dropouts, were given admissions to various government schools.

After the completion of the survey, the central government would provide funds to the state department to prepare a data 'child tracking system' of such children to maintain data, sources said.
