The incident happened around 5 pm on Monday, when several men came out of wedding party at a marriage

NDTV reporter Ashwani Malhotra tried to intervene, but he was beaten up. Some shopkeepers of the area also tried to stop the molestation, but they were also attacked, sources said.

Even though the police were informed immediately; officials from the police station division number 3 arrived at the spot, only a km away, after 40 minutes.

While narrating the incident to Hindustan Times, Malhotra said “When I tried to stop the youth from molesting a girl, they attacked me with a kirpan.”

“We are immediately registering a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against the nine attackers, who are in police custody. The rest of the accused will also be traced and brought to book soon,” said ADCP Navjot Mahal.
