As 60-year-old, Santokh Singh, who retired from Punjab State Tubewell Corporation last year, expressed his inability to pay him more, as his share of ancestral property was already given to him, it led to heated argument between the father and the son.
Sarabjit Singh, a petty carpenter, in a fit of rage took out his kirpan to attack his father, police sources said adding that mother Kulwant Kaur, who was in the adjoining room came to the rescue of her husband, was repeatedly stabbed by the 'inhuman' son.
As Kaur (58) fainted and lay in pool of blood, Sarabjit turned and stabbed his father twice before fleeing from the spot, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajinder Singh told Hindustan Times, adding that the accused was traced and arrested by the villagers, before he could have fled away from the village.
While Kaur succumbed to her injuries on the spot, injured Santokh was immediately rushed to the civil hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical, he added.
On the statement of Bhupinder Singh, elder son of the deceased, accused Sarabjit Singh was booked under sections 302 (Murder) and 307 (Attempt to Murder) under Indian Penal Code(IPC).
Statement of the injured father would also be recorded, Singh said adding that the body was sent for post-mortem.
SP revealed that during investigation it came to light that accused, a carpenter, came back from Dubai few years back and now he wanted to get settled in United Kingdom to fulfill his dollar dreams, for which he had to pay a hefty amount to travel agent.
As the accused knew that his father, who retired from government job last year, got his dues including Provident Fund, he was demanding money from him, which the father denied, SP said.
