Stop illegal construction at Nakodar: ASI TO DC

The Chandigarh circle of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has urged Jalandhar deputy commissioner to issue directions to Nakodar administrative and police officials to stop all construction activities in the prohibited areas ofhistoric Nakodar Tombs.


In an official communication, superintendent archaeologist said Mohahmad Momin's Tomb and Haji Jamal Tomb were monuments of national importance and had been declared as protected.

The letter added that the area up to 100 m from the protected monument area was declared a prohibited area and further 200 m was a regulatory area.

Construction is totally banned under the prohibited area.

The communication said Manmohan Singh of Mohalla Rajputan, Surinder Kumar of Malri Gate, Sadhiq Ali of Muradshah road and Davinder Singh of Kapurthala Road have raised unauthorised construction withi nprohibited and regulated area in violation of AMASAR Act, 1958, andAmendment and Validation Act, 2010. It said that the ASI had issued notices to violators, but to no avail.

The ASI urged the deputy commissioner to direct the local administrative and police officials to stop construction work and demolish these unauthorizedstructures.
