The police have registered a case against a man for raping his 40-year-old mentally challenged niece over the past four years in Garhi Uddhowal village of the Kapurthala district. In a complaint to Rahon police, the woman's brother Baldev Singh, a resident of Ladowal, Ludhiana said that
his sister was living with his uncle Surjeet Singh and Aunt Surinder Kaur from 2008. He said that he used to visit regularly to inquire about his sister's health.

He claimed that he had requested the man to let her take the niece back with him in August this year.

He alleged that in his most recent visit, he found that nobody was at home. They decided to explore the neighboring area and found that Surjeet was raping his sister in a field near the village. On seeing them, Surjeet fled from the spot.

He alleged that Surjeet Singh and his son Kesar Singh had been raping his sister for over the past few years. He claimed that his aunt Surinder Kaur was aware of the incident.

Speaking with HT, DSP (city) Satish Malhotra said that the police had booked Surjeet Singh and Kesar Singh under Sections 376 (rape) of IPC. He also said that Surinder Kaur has also been booked under section 120 -B of the IPC.

Medical examination of the woman had been conducted at the Nawanshahr Civil Hospital and the report was awaited, he said.
