5 stolen motorcycles recovered, man held

Police of Division No. 2 have arrested an accused who used to dump stolen motorcycles in a vacant plot to distract cops from locating them.
The accused has been identified as Prakash Thapa, 26, of Dholewal area. The police recovered five stolen motorcycles from his possession, besides
three mobile phones.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, ACP (central) Ramneesh Choudhary said SHO of Division No. 2 police station inspector Gurpreet Singh along with a police party arrested the accused from a naka set up at Isa Nagri on Thursday. The accused was crossing the area riding a motorcycle. The police stopped him for questioning. However, the police found that the motorcycle he was riding was stolen and the accused had put up a fake number on it.

Following his interrogation, the police also recovered four more motorcycles which he had dumped in a vacant plot at Humbran road.

The ACP said the accused was a habitual offender and facing trial in three more cases of vehicle lifting.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh said the accused possessed a bunch of motorcycle keys and used to steal them from crowded places. The police produced him before a court on Friday, which remanded him in two-day police custody.
