A city-based NGO, Manas Foundation, organised a caregivers programme at Hotel Fortune Klassik on Sunday. More than 150 caregivers of psychiatric patients attended the seminar.
Former MLA Harish Rai Dhanda was the chief guest who inaugurated the seminar. He discussed about the global measures of perceived stress which comes as a result of physical and mental pressure to overwhelm adaptive capacities.
Dr Ajit Awasthi, professor of psychiatry from PGIMER, Chandigarh, chaired the session. The seminar aimed at creating awareness regarding management of psychiatric illnesses by their family members.
Dr Rajeev Gupta, consultant psychiatrist at Manas Hospital, talked about the clinical and social issues of living with chronic psychiatric patients.
During the seminar, Dr Sandeep Choudhary, professor of psychiatry, Subharti Medical College, Meerut, discussed the increasing burden on caregivers and various impacts on their mental health.
Dr Sandeep Grover, associate professor, psychiatry at PGIMER Chandigarh, talked about the relapses in psychiatric illness which are very common in disorders, like schizophrenia, bipolar depression, anxiety disorders and their prevention.
